Virtual Talent Show To Benefit Safe N Sane Class of 2021

By: Lisa V. Proulx

We love to hear stories of students doing good things and making a difference in the world, and the students at Brunswick High School Drama Department are doing just that!

The group will hold a virtual Talent Show on Friday, January 29, at 7:00 pm to showcase the amazing talents of BHS students. There is even voting for a winner and will be open for one week after they post the show. It is a $1.00 donation for 1 vote.

According to Brandon Boyer, the Advertisement Chair and Sophomore Representative for the Drama Club, “Safe N’ Sane is for seniors on their graduation night, they have the chance to be with their class for a final time and they also have the chance to win prizes. This is also to ensure the seniors don’t get into any trouble or do bad/dumb things that night during a celebration.”

Good thinking!

According to the BHS site, “Graduation is a time of celebration and marks the culmination of our student’s achievements. However, statistically, graduation night is one of the most dangerous nights for our children.”

To help beat the odds, they are hosting a Safe N’ Sane, all-night party, where the recent graduates can celebrate without their parents worrying about their safety. Safe ‘N Sane is a celebration of their amazing success and a congratulations sponsored by parents and our local community for the achievement of graduating from Brunswick High School.

In other words, this is an extremely worthy cause.

“We began the project for the talent show months ago,” says Brandon, “and we will post the final show on the BHStage, our YouTube page, at 7:00 pm. There will be nine acts and the act with the most votes wins. All the money raised is going to BHStage and the Class of 2021 Safe N’ Sane.”

To combat the statistics, The BHS Safe N’ Sane Class of 2021 Parent Volunteer Committee will host a Safe N’ Sane party for their graduating seniors on the night of their graduation, June 2. This ALL-night event provides a SAFE atmosphere free from drugs and alcohol that allows the parents to remain SANE, knowing their children are in a protected environment.

This year’s Safe N’ Sane will be held at Adventure Park, USA. During the party, the graduates will have a plethora of games to play, fun activities to participate in, sports to try, music to enjoy, and plenty of food to eat.

To entice students to join the fun, they will offer “epic” prizes, but they look to you, our community, to support this great cause and help keep our children safe.

The event was created and produced by Ella Fitzgerald (Senior Representative on the Drama Department, Executive Council), Lyndsey Peterson (Director at BHS for the Theater department), and Debbie Backer (who is in charge of the Safe N’ Sane for the Class of 2021).

Brunswick High School wants our students of the Class of 2021 to stay safe, and to beat the odds. This is the bright beginning of our children’s lives as they embark on their path to adulthood and we want to provide them with the best path possible.

Let’s all do our part to help these students and keep them Safe N’ Sane.

Voters of the talent show can pay through Venmo (@BHS-Safe-Sane) or PayPal (bhssafeandsane@gmail.com) and they are to include “BGT vote for *Insert act number*.
