Not having any baseball during the regular Brunswick Railroaders Little League season last year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, hasn’t dampened the desire of all of those involved with the program, which has been a staple in this community, since 1954.
The regular seasons are winding down and the post-season is set to begin, with the Dave Fogle Classic being held at Frederick National’s Robert B. Staley Stadium in Frederick.
Brunswick will not be sending a team to the Fogle Classic this year, but will be hosting three major tournaments this year, starting with the District 2 Junior League’s Tournament of Champions at Brunswick High School’s baseball field, also unofficially known as Lee Merriman Memorial Park.
Two games are slated for Saturday, June 12, with the title game set for 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 13.
The Gregg Quedeweit District 2 TOC will be held at Brunswick’s Marvin E. Younkins Memorial Field, starting at 6 p.m. , on Friday, June. Both tournaments are single-elimination and concluding at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 21.
Frederick National will face the Fogle Classic winner in the first game on Friday, June 18. Four games are slated for Saturday, June 19.
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 19. Thurmont’s Brewers face East Frederick’s FSK Lions. Mountain Valley’s Red Sox play the Montgomery County-Lower champion at noon.
Host Brunswick faces MCLL-Upper at 3 p.m., with that Saturday schedule wrapping up at 6 p.m. with Frederick American’s Elks facing the Frederick National-Fogle Classic winner.
Two semifinal-round games are slated on Sunday, June 20, beginning at noon. The Quedeweit championship game is set for 6 p.m. on Monday, June 21.
The best-of-3 District 2 Little League Softball Championship Series, which begins Saturday, June 19, at Brunswick, Brunswick faces MCLL in Game 1 at 4 p.m., with Game 2 to follow. A third game, if needed to determine a district champion, will be played at MCLL at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 21.
In the best-of-3 District 2 8-10 Little League Softball Championship Series, which begins on June 26, Brunswick faces host MCLL at 4 p.m. in Game 1. Game 2 will follow. Should a third game be necessary to determine a champion, it would be played at 6 p.m. at Brunswick on June 27.
In District 2 9-11 Little League tourney play, Brunswick has a first-round bye and faces the Frederick National-MCLL-Upper winner at noon on June 26. The main tournament, the District 2 Little League Tournament, begins Saturday, July 3. Brunswick plays at Frederick National in a first-round game at 9 a.m.
