Multiple Vehicles Involved in the City and County
FREDERICK, Md. (July 6, 2021) – A hit and run that started at around 6:30 a.m., today, in Frederick City ended outside the City in Frederick County with the arrest of Kenneth Niblett Jr., age 59, of Frederick.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., Frederick Police Department (FPD) officers responded to the 100 block of West 5th Street for a report of a hit and run vehicle collision. Upon further investigation, officers determined that Niblett was operating a Ford F250 truck when, beginning in an off street parking area located in the 100 block of West 5th Street and continuing eastbound on West 5th Street to North East Street and then southbound on North East Street, he struck parked and occupied vehicles along his route without stopping.
Niblett continued, leaving the City, and Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies were dispatched. He went southbound on Tabler Road when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped another vehicle that was traveling in the northbound direction. Niblett fled the scene in his truck. Approximately one-quarter mile south of this crash scene, he crossed the centerline again and struck another vehicle head on, finally disabling his vehicle.
One driver involved in the Tabler Road incidents was treated and released on scene and the other was transported to an area hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries.
Upon being advised of the collisions that occurred on Tabler Road, FPD officers responded and took Niblett into custody. Niblett will be charged with multiple violations from FPD and FCSO.
“The Frederick Police Department wants to thank the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance in this case and its work to keep residents safe from harm,” said FPD Chief Jason Lando. “The interagency collaboration is crucial to minimizing harm during incidents that cross into multiple jurisdictions.”
