FREDERICK, Md. (May 8, 2021) – At approximately 10:30 p.m., on Friday, May 7, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies were dispatched to the 4400 block of Lewis Mill Court in Jefferson, Maryland, for a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, deputies located two adult male victims. One victim suffered a stab wound to the abdomen and the second victim had severe head injuries.

 An initial investigation revealed that the two subjects were in a verbal argument, which quickly became physical. During the altercation, Kyle Burdette, age 21, of Brunswick, Maryland, stabbed Cole Zittle, age 21, from Jefferson.

 Maryland State Police transported both victims, by aviation, to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

The most recent update on Zittle, as of 4 a.m. this morning, is he is in critical but stable condition and doctors expect him to live.

 The stabbing suspect, Burdette, also suffered injuries from physically fighting with Zittle, who did not use any weapons. After minor treatment, hospital staff released Burdette to FCSO custody for further investigation.

 Based on information learned during the investigation, FCSO detectives arrested Burdette for first-degree assault and transported him to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for holding.
