FCPS Challenges Program Changes Name
Frederick, MD (May 18, 2021) – Expressions is the new name of a long-time FCPS special education program, which provides integrated and enhanced supports for students with severe communication deficits.
Expressions replaces the Challenges Program starting with the 2021-22 school year. A workgroup was organized last year to create a new name that would not only embody the purpose of the program, but would also evoke a sense of optimism associated with positive student outcomes.
“We are FCPS proud to unveil the new name of our communication program, FCPS Special Education Director Dr. Linda Chambers said. “Thank you to the staff, families and the community for their exceptional work in organizing and selecting a name that evokes a sense of optimism for how the program has evolved over time to reach, challenge and prepare our students for success in the global society.”
After discussing many potential names, Expressions was chosen because the name best fits the program’s goals and desired outcomes for students. The support program serves more than 100 students at six schools: Carroll Manor, Deer Crossing and Middletown elementary schools, Middletown Primary, Gov. Thomas Johnson Middle and Gov. Thomas Johnson High.
