Pre-kindergarten
The FCPS pre-kindergarten program is a state-funded program for 4-year-old children who meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Child must be 4 years old on or before September 1 of the current school year
- Child must reside in Frederick County
Children whose families qualify under the Free and Reduced-Price Meals income guidelines and children who are homeless or in foster care receive automatic placement into the pre-kindergarten program. Enrollment is still required; please use the links here for English or here for Spanish.
Otherwise, applying for an FCPS public pre-kindergarten program, regardless of the time of year, DOES NOT automatically guarantee enrollment. Every attempt is made to provide space for as many children as possible, but because of funding restrictions, spaces are limited. In order for an application to be considered, all appropriate information must be completed and accompanied by ALL required documentation. Incomplete applications will not be processed and may affect a child’s placement.
For more information about eligibility and applications for prekindergarten, please visit https://www.fcps.org/academics/prekindergarten.
Inclusive Pre-K Peer Applications
FCPS offers a unique pre-kindergarten program in inclusive special education classes. These classes are available at 14 FCPS locations and educate all students using pre-academic standards while implementing Individualized Education Plans for eligible children who have been identified with a disability.
Inclusive Pre-K classes are available for 3- and 4-year old students who will attend half-day sessions. Students must be 3 or 4 years old by September 1, and transportation is not provided. Students may attend any school location, regardless of residence.
The application process is open, and students will be selected via an FCPS lottery process. Please visit https://www.fcps.org/student-services/enrolling-a-student for details. Please visit our website where specific details are explained:Â https://www.fcps.org/academics/prekindergarten. This program is offered at 15 select schools.
