FCPS Challenges Program to Change Name

The Community can vote for new moniker

A long-time program run by Frederick County Public Schools is undergoing a name change, and the public’s help is sought in making the final decision.

The Challenges Program, which provides integrated support to students with autism and/or severe communication disorders, will soon have a new moniker.

The Challenges Program will be named Communication Connections or Expressions starting with the 2021-22 school year. A workgroup was organized last year to create a new name that would not only embody the purpose of the program, but would also evoke a sense of optimism associated with positive student outcomes.

After discussing many potential names, Communication Connections and Expressions were chosen because they best fit the program’s goals and desired outcomes for students.

The Challenges Program serves more than 100 students at six schools: Carroll Manor, Deer Crossing and Middletown elementary schools, Middletown Primary, Gov. Thomas Johnson Middle and Gov. Thomas Johnson High.

Community members can vote for their preferred name, and provide feedback, via https://pubforms.fcps.org/view.php?id=81174. Voting will close April 16.
