Nominate an FCPS School Counselor of the Year 

The Community’s Input is Needed

National School Counseling Week is February 1-5, and FCPS is encouraging the community to recognize school counselors for meeting the needs of students during the global health crisis.

The community is encouraged to nominate their favorite school counselors for FCPS School Counselor of the Year. Nominations are due February 26. The nomination form is available at https://forms.gle/qZxPN5hckDgFhp366.

Brunswick Elementary’s Kathleen Klecan is the current Maryland School Counselor of the Year. 

This year’s theme for National School Counseling Week is “School Counselors: All in for All Students.” FCPS employs 137 school counselors who guide and support students.

Due to the health situation that our community is currently experiencing, the February 10th Board meeting will be broadcast from the central office of Frederick County Public Schools; however, the meeting will not be open to the public.  Should anyone wish to provide public comment, please send an email that includes your full name to: FCPSBoEmtg@fcps.org the day of the Board meeting.  The Board allocates 30 minutes for public comment.  Public comments will be read up to 30 minutes; however, all public comment, whether read or not, will be posted on BoardDocs within 24 hours of the meeting.  Please note that public comment is for statements and questions will be directed to the appropriate staff for response.

Registration is Now Open for the 40th Annual Frederick County Secondary Science and Engineering Fair.

Calling all FCPS middle and high school students – registration is now open for the 40th Annual Frederick County Secondary Science and Engineering Fair.

This is an International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) regional event, which will be virtual this year. Registration closes February 28 at 11:59 p.m. The event is open to all (middle and high) students who live or go to school in Frederick County. FCPS hosts two divisions, one for middle school and one for high school students.

Dr. Terry Alban, Superintendent said, “I’m thrilled that we are able to have the Science & Engineering Fair this year as our science and engineering students today may very well invent and discover solutions to world problems in the future.”

The fair will be held March 20; high school students will participate in virtual interviews from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. All awards will be announced the following week. FCPS winners will advance to national and international competitions.

All registered projects must be submitted by March 14.
